Spurned is FINALLY Available at…

Barnes and Noble!!!! If it in itunes bookstore yet, I can't find it! I was beginning to think it would never show up at Barnes and Noble, then bam! there it was! It has already had quite a few downloads, so I hope my 'old' fans are liking it as well as 'new' fans. And of course, remember that with my series, the first taste is ALWAYS FREE! somewhere on the web. Though Amazon insists on charging for the book, everywhere else Spurned is free, including Barnes and Noble. Whoo hoo!

The second book of the "Hither and Nigh Carnival" series is well underway, like the second draft is 2/3 done. I have already gotten a few inquiries as to how many books will be in this series, and I change my mind on that...pretty much every day. Some days I feel like this is a four booker, other days it only feels like three. I am letting the story flow as it will with the hopes that that issue will resolve all by itself via magic. And I'm dying of curiosity about who everyone will love to hate in the new series! Almost everyone disliked Abira in the "Last Savior Trilogy" and loved Baphomet, so I am curious as to your reactions with my new cast of characters...feel free to leave your thoughts in a review, on Goodreads, or here at my humble internet abode.

Well, as usual, enough blathering by me! Here's the BN link:

Zentangle Quail

This might be the most fanciful quail you have ever seen! I had a lot of fun doodling her while writing this week. Ready? Here she is:quail

Okay, now that the random doodle of the week is out of the way, let us move onto news regarding my writing. Remember how I said there was some sweet audiobookage heading your way this month? Man, it is not happening, not this month and probably not next month either. While my publishing schedule is not too far behind (more on that in a sec) the audio stuff is waaayyyy behind. Sorry, guys, but there was some poor scheduling on my part. It's a shame, too, because Keplar (my audio/tech superstar) had a soundtrack already written for A Shadow of Lilies

Bummer.

Now, my next book, which was promised at the end of this month, is experiencing some minor delays, which you guys who are older fans knew was coming. I try so hard to keep a production schedule up, but my three year old has other plans (that's right, I, a grown woman, am blaming my poor scheduling on a teeny tiny adorable little girl). It's nothing horrible, but between life getting in the way and general summertime craziness, early July is looking a little more likely. Sorry yet again! I am really excited to hear what my fans think of the book, and every day that publishing is delayed is another day I will not get your thoughts back on the book.

So what else is going on? Hmmm, I have been getting more questions from fans who are aspiring authors, and I have been giving very, very general advice on how to get started via Heinlein's rules of writing. The last rule of his is simply this: You must put your story on the market. Back when he was writing, that meant submitting your work over and over again to different publishers. From what he claimed, the day he got a rejection of one of his stories, he would send it right back out to another potential publisher. Now, if you are interested in traditional publishing, this is pretty much still good advice.

However, if you have been consulting at the oracle of 'R. Moses' for a glimpse of your author future, you know I am indie published and plan to stay that way unless a publisher backs up a truck full of money and unloads those bales of greenbacks into my secret vault.

Yeah, don't see that happening anytime soon.

So, how does Heinlein's classic advice work in the modern world of indie publishing? It works brilliantly! One of the most beautiful aspects of independent publishing is that once you put your ebook on the market, it stays there unless you remove it (or if you have a dispute with your distributor and they remove it, a common occurrence with erotic works especially, though anyone can be bitten by this snake). And if you take the extra step and have your book signed up for print on demand distribution, then your fans can order paperbacks of your work and the book is not printed until they order it. Whoo hoo! So, yeah, once you submit it to the market, you can move on...hopefully to your next bit of writing. Keeping your work on the market is pretty vital to getting sales, and that aspect of writing is so much easier than it was in Heinlein's day.

So good luck, keep writing, keep reading, and have a great week!

Sneak Peek of New Cover Design

I've got a simple little sketch for you guys! While I could change the design on the cover at the last minute, this is what I've got so far. I think it is vaguely creepy yet pretty. Ready, set, go....

A Fury of Angels: Update

Well, the update is I am still on track for early May publishing of A Fury of Angels. No delays! Whoo hoo! We are designing the cover today; fingers crossed that it will rock!

So what else is new? One big thing I am thinking of is my next series, and I have gotten several questions about what I am writing next. I do  believe I will take up a new pen name and write a young adult fantasy series. I like the fast pace and themes of young adult, and I feel those components fit well with the themes. I already have the first 8,000 words or so written out of the series. Here's a fun little hint: the setting is a carnival. Carnivals are all bright lights and dark corners, and of course, you all know I am going to explore the dark corners! There is going to be ghosts and evil carnies! It does NOT get better than that!

The last little bit of news I have is that I finally updated my "About Me" page. I sort of compiled all the most popular fan questions I get and smushed them together. There is a picture of me added too if you REALLY want to know what I look like. So go check out the "About Me" page if you want to know more about me. If you do not want to know more about me, I understand completely. I am the most boring person I know!

Well, back to working sixteen hour days until A Fury of Angels is published! Cheers!

Delay Number One : Fury of Angels

Oh, my faithful readers. I regret to inform you I got sick on Saturday and the sickness spread like germy wildfire through my household. We are still recovering and now I think A Fury of Angels will be published in early May. It's only a couple of days, but I missed my deadline.

Again.

Sigh.

In the hopes of cheering everyone up despite my utter failings at time management, here is yet another zentangle sketch of a unicorn. I sketched this like five or six years ago then pulled it out of storage and finished it. I rarely add much color to my pen and ink sketches, so this one is a little different. Hope you enjoy!

Zentangle Dragon

Oh, yeah, a zentangle dragon this week. Whoo hoo. I thought he was kind of cute, with big round eyes and a lazy smile. Drawing him helped me think as I finished up the second draft of A Fury of Angels. And trust me, there is a lot of fury! I am happy to report I am still on track for a release at the end of this month but you never know what trials await this haggard writer...keep sending those happy-waves-finish-the-trilogy-already-dang-it-vibes!

I also hope to design the new cover for the book. I want more calligraphy in the typography so the final book will look different from the first two. They are going to have cover redos as well so they should all match up soon.

Anyway, enough of my blathering! Here is the dragon...dun dun dunnnnn....

The Audiobook of ‘Demon Draw’ Has Been Released Into the Wild

Hello, fiends! I have something that may be of interest to you... the audiobook of my longish short story, “Demon Draw.” The voice actor/producer who completed this dramatic rendering is also going to produce A Shadow of Lilies. Check out his website, Keplar.net, if your curious about his work. He layers a wide variety of voices and sound effects to make some creepy demons.

Oh, yeah, added bonus to the audiobooks. I got sweet-talked into doing voice-acting, which I have zero training in. I play the voice of Valena. You really ought to listen to my hick accent, it is hilarious. So if you want to know what my voice sounds like, there you go! I really think I sound awful, but I will leave the final judgment to you...

Of course, I have to give an update on A Fury of Angels. No delays-yet. I hold my breath in anticipation for release at the end of the month. I am working on the second draft still-and nothing has gone wrong! Whoo hoo! No delays, no sickness, no sudden emergencies, nothing has impeded me! So you guys keep sending me happy-waves until I publish the book!

And without further ado, here is “Demon Draw.”

Weekly Update on A Fury of Angels and a Zentangle Dragon

Hello, fiends. Hope Easter finds your basket full of eggs and your bunny hopping merrily. The only egg I have for your basket is this: I am done with the first draft of A Fury of Angels and halfway through the second draft! Whoo hoo! I have my fingers crossed for an April publish date on the final book in the trilogy. It still needs to go through a total of four drafts and an edit, and that is a lot of work, but I am shooting for the stars here. I ask you, my kindly and faithful fans, to send me happy waves and good luck cheers. Perhaps if we all join together and ask the universe very nicely, she/it/he will deliver the finished book by the end of April!

Just for my little bit of random, I drew a zentangle sea dragon this week while thinking about writing. There is so much stuff to plan, from marketing to cover design, and this little dragon helped me through it all-him and my ever patient husband. Hope you enjoy! (The image uploaded kind of small so please click on to enlarge. The scales are really detailed and you cannot really see unless  he is enlarged, thanks!)

Zentangle Unicorn

Hello, fiends! As always, Monday is bringing you fans of dark fantasy a bit of weird, a bite of random, dashed with a little strange sauce.

And today's random weirdness is...drumroll, please...a zentangle unicorn.

I hear the hue and cry raised. WHAT! yell my fans of "The Last Savior Trilogy." Why aren't you writing?! You promised the book would be done in spring! I demand justice! Off with her head!

Relax, guys, relax. Let us keep my humble author head on my shoulders. It is still early spring, after all. Drawing is a part of my writing. People always ask 'how do you write? What is your process?' They think I am going to say I pray to the moon, light four candles to earth, wind, fire, and water, rub my unicorn's hoof for good luck, then dip my quill in ink drawn from a monk's sacred ashes.

Alas, writing is a great deal less mystical than that. I usually start my writing process by doodling. I draw something like the unicorn below and fill it with doodles, commonly called 'zentangle' designs. While I am doodling, I ask myself questions about the book and write a great deal in my head. So that is why I am sharing this unicorn with you! While it may seem silly and random, drawing and thinking about my writing go hand in hand. Some writers sit in front of the computer and just start writing, but that has never worked for me.

So there you go. This is how I start writing. By doodling unicorns and chugging coffee. Mysticism dispelled.

And of course, what everyone really wants to know. How is A Fury of Angels doing? You done yet? I get variations of that email all the time and let me assure you I am writing every day. I am so excited to finish the trilogy so that we all know the fate of Hades, Earth, and of course, our heroine Abira. Well, back to writing!
