Release of ‘The Last Savior Trilogy’ Omnibus

The Last Savior Omnibus

Amazon
Barnes & Noble

Awww, yeah. Here it is, the super sexy omnibus edition! I love the cover, it is all gritty and dark, isn't it?! As I mentioned in a previous post, there is no 'bonus' material within, no extra chapters or author interviews or anything like that. If you already have A Shadow of LiliesA Binding of Demons, and A Fury of Angels, then you are not missing out on anything. This is just one compact package for those who like to buy one edition. The whole series clocks in at a little over 225,000 words, which was more than I thought it would be.

Now, on to other subjects! Still working on the next book, all is well there. No surprises, shocks, delays, or computer failure so far, so hopefully it will be released in June as promised.

Another thing I would like to address in this post is the question I (and other authors) get the most from friends/fans/family (the three awesome f words!). And that question is...

I want to be an author! How do you do it? (Alternate versions include "What is your advice for new authors?")

If this question is asked in person, the person sits back and looks at me like there is one simple, easy answer.

There isn't!

So many authors have been asked this question and have answered, so I do not feel I am contributing any new information/advice. This is just what has worked for me, and since you guys ask me personally, I will try to give my own take on the process. The most classic, overused, yet truest advice is the most obvious:

You must write. Every day if you can.

Well, duh. Of course you have to write to be a writer. But this is often what happens to aspiring new writers: They talk about writing. They join writer's groups. They plot out story. If into fantasy, they draw maps. Many illustrate the characters. They think about writing constantly, doodling notes all the while.

Notice how little actual writing is going on. To be a writer, you must write. And you must write knowing that what you are writing will most likely be scrapped for a better draft later on. You must write knowing that your first book/short story/novella have the odds greatly stacked against it being a best seller-if that is even your goal.

And that brings me to the second aspect of writing. What is your goal? Only you can answer that one. Maybe you just want to write a memoir for friends and family. Maybe you want advice on how your poetry is progressing. Maybe you want to be a best seller and fill up a swimming pool with your sweet, sweet cash. How you write, what you write, how often you write, depends on a clear and concise goal that only you can set.

So that's how I did it. I plotted, then I wrote, then I rewrote (I usually go through about five drafts). I scrapped the first two novels I wrote because they sucked really, really bad. That is normal. I hated to trash them because I put so much love in them. But I knew I had to be better. I have to be better every day to make even a modest living as an author. I want to be as good a writer as I can because my readers deserve that. Your time is valuable. Your money is valuable. It is my job as an author to give you the best I am able! I think that is my personal goal. I hope I didn't fail!

So that is part one of how to be an author. Stay tuned for part two!

A Fury of Angels: Update

Well, the update is I am still on track for early May publishing of A Fury of Angels. No delays! Whoo hoo! We are designing the cover today; fingers crossed that it will rock!

So what else is new? One big thing I am thinking of is my next series, and I have gotten several questions about what I am writing next. I do  believe I will take up a new pen name and write a young adult fantasy series. I like the fast pace and themes of young adult, and I feel those components fit well with the themes. I already have the first 8,000 words or so written out of the series. Here's a fun little hint: the setting is a carnival. Carnivals are all bright lights and dark corners, and of course, you all know I am going to explore the dark corners! There is going to be ghosts and evil carnies! It does NOT get better than that!

The last little bit of news I have is that I finally updated my "About Me" page. I sort of compiled all the most popular fan questions I get and smushed them together. There is a picture of me added too if you REALLY want to know what I look like. So go check out the "About Me" page if you want to know more about me. If you do not want to know more about me, I understand completely. I am the most boring person I know!

Well, back to working sixteen hour days until A Fury of Angels is published! Cheers!

Delay Number One : Fury of Angels

Oh, my faithful readers. I regret to inform you I got sick on Saturday and the sickness spread like germy wildfire through my household. We are still recovering and now I think A Fury of Angels will be published in early May. It's only a couple of days, but I missed my deadline.

Again.

Sigh.

In the hopes of cheering everyone up despite my utter failings at time management, here is yet another zentangle sketch of a unicorn. I sketched this like five or six years ago then pulled it out of storage and finished it. I rarely add much color to my pen and ink sketches, so this one is a little different. Hope you enjoy!

Zentangle Dragon

Oh, yeah, a zentangle dragon this week. Whoo hoo. I thought he was kind of cute, with big round eyes and a lazy smile. Drawing him helped me think as I finished up the second draft of A Fury of Angels. And trust me, there is a lot of fury! I am happy to report I am still on track for a release at the end of this month but you never know what trials await this haggard writer...keep sending those happy-waves-finish-the-trilogy-already-dang-it-vibes!

I also hope to design the new cover for the book. I want more calligraphy in the typography so the final book will look different from the first two. They are going to have cover redos as well so they should all match up soon.

Anyway, enough of my blathering! Here is the dragon...dun dun dunnnnn....

The Audiobook of ‘Demon Draw’ Has Been Released Into the Wild

Hello, fiends! I have something that may be of interest to you... the audiobook of my longish short story, “Demon Draw.” The voice actor/producer who completed this dramatic rendering is also going to produce A Shadow of Lilies. Check out his website, Keplar.net, if your curious about his work. He layers a wide variety of voices and sound effects to make some creepy demons.

Oh, yeah, added bonus to the audiobooks. I got sweet-talked into doing voice-acting, which I have zero training in. I play the voice of Valena. You really ought to listen to my hick accent, it is hilarious. So if you want to know what my voice sounds like, there you go! I really think I sound awful, but I will leave the final judgment to you...

Of course, I have to give an update on A Fury of Angels. No delays-yet. I hold my breath in anticipation for release at the end of the month. I am working on the second draft still-and nothing has gone wrong! Whoo hoo! No delays, no sickness, no sudden emergencies, nothing has impeded me! So you guys keep sending me happy-waves until I publish the book!

And without further ado, here is “Demon Draw.”

Weekly Update on A Fury of Angels and a Zentangle Dragon

Hello, fiends. Hope Easter finds your basket full of eggs and your bunny hopping merrily. The only egg I have for your basket is this: I am done with the first draft of A Fury of Angels and halfway through the second draft! Whoo hoo! I have my fingers crossed for an April publish date on the final book in the trilogy. It still needs to go through a total of four drafts and an edit, and that is a lot of work, but I am shooting for the stars here. I ask you, my kindly and faithful fans, to send me happy waves and good luck cheers. Perhaps if we all join together and ask the universe very nicely, she/it/he will deliver the finished book by the end of April!

Just for my little bit of random, I drew a zentangle sea dragon this week while thinking about writing. There is so much stuff to plan, from marketing to cover design, and this little dragon helped me through it all-him and my ever patient husband. Hope you enjoy! (The image uploaded kind of small so please click on to enlarge. The scales are really detailed and you cannot really see unless  he is enlarged, thanks!)

Zentangle Unicorn

Hello, fiends! As always, Monday is bringing you fans of dark fantasy a bit of weird, a bite of random, dashed with a little strange sauce.

And today's random weirdness is...drumroll, please...a zentangle unicorn.

I hear the hue and cry raised. WHAT! yell my fans of "The Last Savior Trilogy." Why aren't you writing?! You promised the book would be done in spring! I demand justice! Off with her head!

Relax, guys, relax. Let us keep my humble author head on my shoulders. It is still early spring, after all. Drawing is a part of my writing. People always ask 'how do you write? What is your process?' They think I am going to say I pray to the moon, light four candles to earth, wind, fire, and water, rub my unicorn's hoof for good luck, then dip my quill in ink drawn from a monk's sacred ashes.

Alas, writing is a great deal less mystical than that. I usually start my writing process by doodling. I draw something like the unicorn below and fill it with doodles, commonly called 'zentangle' designs. While I am doodling, I ask myself questions about the book and write a great deal in my head. So that is why I am sharing this unicorn with you! While it may seem silly and random, drawing and thinking about my writing go hand in hand. Some writers sit in front of the computer and just start writing, but that has never worked for me.

So there you go. This is how I start writing. By doodling unicorns and chugging coffee. Mysticism dispelled.

And of course, what everyone really wants to know. How is A Fury of Angels doing? You done yet? I get variations of that email all the time and let me assure you I am writing every day. I am so excited to finish the trilogy so that we all know the fate of Hades, Earth, and of course, our heroine Abira. Well, back to writing!
